Did the doctors observe the Hippocratic Oath?

-

THE EDITOR, Madam:

THE GREAT injustice that was levelled on Jodian Fearon is really heart-rending and inhumane. Somebody has to face the trumpet and, subsequently, the court of law for this dastardly act. Someone must be guilty of this serious and mind-boggling atrocity.

If young Ms Fearon was of a higher status than a regular Jamaican, she would have been given first-class treatment from any and every medical institution. The lack of equity within our midst has caused much pain and discord among the populace and this has to be stopped.

Discrimination on the part of medical workers who took the Hippocratic Oath is unacceptable. This oath was instituted in training to protect all lives, and they should have made the commitment to protect young Jodian in her pain and distress.

The neglect of duties due to fear has cast a different light on medical professionals who have always done their duty with compassion and fearlessness, no matter the consequences or circumstances.

This brutish treatment of Ms Fearon is a shame on the medical profession and will be with us for a long time, due to a few mavericks who are not true to the people of Jamaica and the noble medical care service.

All the hospitals that failed to live up to the strong traditions of the Jamaican medical fraternity should face serious punishment.

I implore all persons with information on the matter to call the relevant police investigation unit. May the guilty parties get their day in court.
