Containment of COVID-19
THE EDITOR, Madam
KINDLY ALLOW me space in your newspaper to say a big ‘thank you’ to the media houses for highlighting the issues and problems faced by funeral homes as it relates to burial of the dead and the wait-and-see policy adopted by bereaved families.
COVID-19 is here with us, and it would seem as if it is going to be around for some time.
However, if we follow the guidelines as laid down by the Government, we should be able to contain the spread of the virus, thus reducing the fatalities.
A drug has been discovered and developed locally to help reduce the spread of the virus and it is being administered by the UHWI, I am informed.
I would like to urge all and sundry to follow the guidelines as laid down by the Ministry of Health and Wellness: Wash and sanitise your hands regularly, along with the wearing of your mask.
Maintain legal distancing and follow all the directives issued by the health authorities. Avoid the touching and kissing of your dead loved ones as a necessary precaution against COVID-19. The revised opening hours of bars, clubs and other places of entertainment is most welcome.
I urge the patrons to observe and follow the directives given by Minister McKenzie, as the gradual opening up of the economy will stimulate industries, etc.
PREVENTION
My late friend Dr Vendryes always reminded us that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.”
The funeral industry has seen some improvement with the measures adopted by the Government, along with its determination in enforcement. Let us all do our part in working towards the eradication of COVID19 from our shores.
I urge the government and opposition to cooperate and make the necessary funds available, where possible, in order for us to breathe a sigh of relief.
