Digicel announces joint venture with Iliad

-

Digicel Group has struck a deal with Iliad SA, which gives the French operator access to its Radio Access Network in the French West Indies, and allows it to launch mobile services, the telecoms announced Tuesday.

The joint-venture agreement spans the islands of Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, St Martin and St Barts.

“The two companies will share future operational investments, with an ambition of building one of the most extensive networks in the French West Indies by increasing the number of sites and providing further fibre connectivity for improved coverage and speed. The agreement is subject to the required regulatory approvals,”said a statement issued by Digicel.

Digicel Group CEO Jean-Yves Charlier said such a joint venture involving network sharing was a first for the telecoms, which was launched 17 years ago in Jamaica. Digicel now operates across 31 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific.
