at Wisynco ECO Shelly-Ann Dunkley (right) and members of the Wisynco ECO Club administra­tion at Vere Technical High School are in high spirits as she showcases a symbolic cheque made out to the institutio­n for JMD$200,000 on Thursday. The school was awarded first place for collecting 510,672 plastic bottles in the Wisynco ECO Clubs in Schools Competitio­n and was one of over 100 schools across the island that participat­ed in the fourth staging. A total of 10,424,372 plastic bottles were collected for the 2019-2020 recycling initiative geared at building awareness around recycling and sensitisin­g students on proper waste- management practices. The winnings are to be used to create or continue an environmen­tal project at the Clarendon-based institutio­n. Placing second and third in the high-school category were Denbigh High School in Clarendon, with 321,984 bottles, and Wolmers’ Boys School in Kingston, with 291,312 bottles. They will receive $100,000 and $75,00, respective­ly.
