Abused by metallic ‘music’

-

THE EDITOR, Madam:

WHAT A wonderful experience it is to be awakened every morning by the sound of clanging metal. It can only compare to the continued disturbance of banging metal throughout the day. We at home have no need of any other kind of entertainment since we are so attuned to the discordant music of metal upon metal.

After all, it is only fair that, as a retiree who has worked many years slavishly in the hopes of some peace and quiet in her twilight years, I should be rewarded with the non-musical refrain that constantly assails my ears. The premises responsible for the noise has been around for the last five years, despite the valiant efforts of the KSAC to remove or curtail same.

This is how wonderfully adept the KSAC and related government entities are in performing their duties. They care so much about the residents of the communities of Hughenden, Red Hills Gardens and Red Hills Boulevard that they allow people to set up a metal workshop in their midst, despite being asked to intervene and despite their not being any other business of an industrial nature in the immediate vicinity. But we know we matter greatly. Certainly it is imperative to retain the integrity of a residential zone by not allowing a business of this kind to flourish. Definitely, workers are able to be quiet and mindful of their neighbours when working with metals.

So, here I remain, suffering and besieged in my own home. What a wonderful place Jamaica is to live.
