Stop praedial larceny

- ROBERT LEWARS lewars72@yahoo.com

THE EDITOR, Madam: AGRICULTURE IS the road to recovery for Jamaica, through and after the COVID-19 pandemic. We need to ensure that all the tools are provided to the farmers so that they benefit in every way.

When the borders are reopened, the country should be looking towards agriculture to put us back in the growth trajectory. But one very important problem that need to be addressed is that of praedial larceny.

Not every farmer in Jamaica can afford security to protect their livelihood. There needs to be an urgent social intervention, and this may encourage people who are into praedial larceny to go into farming and do things the right way.

Finally, I must say kudos to the Government and officials for their work. We would like to see that while we address the issue of praedial larceny, we continue to pave the way for the growth and development of the agriculture sector.
