Saharan Air Layer to intensify over the next 24 hours

-

The Saharan Air Layer (Dust plume) which has been affecting the island since Monday, is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours. Meteorological Service of Jamaica said the country is likely to see the worst case of the plume today but it will gradually dissipate by the weekend. Satellite images show the thick dust moving off the west coast of Africa, crawling across the Atlantic and the eastern Caribbean on Sunday, and now moving into the Central Caribbean. Jamaica could experience another episode over the next week or two. The current phase is expected to last a week but could reoccur in the next couple of days.
