Kamala Harris will be Trump’s worst nightmare
THE EDITOR, Madam: PRESIDENT DONALD Trump expressed surprise that Senator Kamala Harris was selected by Joe Biden to be his vice-presidential running mate in the upcoming elections in the United States. Trump went on to criticise Harris; he must be nervous. Of course, Harris has an impressive résumé to support her candidacy, she was also one of the front runners in the Democratic presidential primaries. Harris exudes confidence, competence and power, attributes which some men fear in women.
The former prosecutor and attorney general of California has a reputation of being a sharp questioner in hearings and is known for stinging comeback lines towards critics, including Trump. Her debating skills are impeccable; the Harris versus Pence debate will be highly anticipated, perhaps more than Biden versus Trump.
Harris is the first woman of colour on the presidential ticket and could possibly be the first female president of the USA, considering Biden’s age. The daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, Harris is described as a progressive liberal and an activist.
Since Harris was named as Biden’s running mate, the Biden campaign has seen a surge in fundraising. Harris brings youth, gender and a different type of energy to the campaign, even as some may fear the thought of a formidable black woman being just one door down from the office of the president of the US.
