That view was echoed by Marcus Berry, who usually has his dressing redone at the facility.

“I know that COVID-19 is here, so we have to just respect the changes, but this is not good for me at all,” Berry said.

THE POLICE say that a man who has been fleecing hefty sums of money from persons he tricked into believing that he could source motor vehicles and other services, as long as three years ago, is now custody.

THE MAN, whose name is being withheld because he is not charged, was reportedly held last Monday in Portmore.

ONE OF the victims, who has since been contacted by detectives assigned to the Fraud Squad and told to bring in evidence of payments, told he is eager to be reimbursed.

“I WAS to go yesterday but I didn’t get the time off. I will be going in as soon as possible ... ,” the victim said. “I knew the accused because he was my daughter’s godmother’s friend. He showed me websites with his name and pictures of cars that he imported for persons.”

SO CONVINCING was the accused that the victim said he paid the alleged fraudster $500,000 in July 2017 with the expectation of getting the new car in September for his birthday.

“HIM CAN convince God fi live a hell with Satan,”the alleged victim said of the suspect’s ability to persuade someone.

HE HAS, however, not seen the fraudster since he asked for a refund in October 2018. “WHEN I gave him the money, he said it would take three months to get here. Him mek me go wharf one week straight,” he said. “FROM I tell him about refund, the man leave him house a Longville Park in Clarendon, leave everything in there and nuh come back.”

HE TOLD that he made a Facebook post that went viral, and four other alleged victims made contact with him and shared similar stories.

THE GLEANER understands that some of the victims had solicited the services of a private investigator.

HEAD OF the police communications arm, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, told our news team that the main suspect was in custody.
