An integral part of the Jamaican financial landscape
AHAPPY International Credit Union Day to all members and well-wishers. This is indeed a red letter day in the life of the international Credit Union movement which is celebrated against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. Appropriately, the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Inspiring Hope for a Global Community’. This exemplifies the role of the movement to its members and the hope which credit unions and other affiliated organisations must offer to their stakeholders and constituents to enable them to navigate this storm, with the sure knowledge that with the help of their credit union, they will rebound and flourish at the end of this pandemic.
The Jamaican Credit Union Movement is an integral part of the Jamaican financial landscape, and is a valued member of an impressive worldwide organisation that has a total membership of 223 million individuals who belong to 60,500 credit unions in 118 countries across the world.
Our movement, which started 79 years ago, boasts membership of just over one million hard-working Jamaicans who regard their credit union as their financial institution of choice because they are well run, solid and provide the pathway to financial freedom and independence.
I salute credit union members for their continued faith in us as we continue to provide personalised professional service. During this pandemic, we remain committed to providing innovative products with excellent rates on savings and loans.
We are not just celebrating International Credit Union Day, but a whole week of activities. However, being responsible corporate citizens we have scaled back on our person-to-person activities. But we will remain visible in the electronic media, the press and social media. But, more importantly, we are steadfast in being your sanctuary and place of refuge in this COVID-19 storm, not just for your finance, but your emotional well-being and happiness, as we continue to inspire hope.
Thanks to our esteemed volunteers, our experienced members of staff and managers of credit unions as you continue to inspire hope for Jamaicans and, by extension, the global community.
May God continue to bless the movement and give hope and peace to our beloved country.
