Let us make a difference

- MICHELLE WALTERS NEMBHARD Operations Manager Insurance Employees Co-operative Credit Union Limited

IN THE words of author Wayne Dyer, “If you can change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Let us be thankful for life, for with life we can change the way we look at things.

We are in the midst of a pandemic, yet all hope is not lost. Credit unions, and specifically the Insurance Employees Co-operative Credit Union (IECCU), have reacted positively to our members to help in managing the challenges.

Our members have benefited from moratorium, removal of fees as well as new loan products to ease the financial burden. We have seen an increase in the number of online services (loan applications, withdrawals, queries and Internet banking) and our employees remain committed to offering excellent service. Additionally, we are happy to promote CUNA Caribbean’s Family Indemnity Plan and Family Critical Illness Plan, especially in these crucial times.

Despite the unplanned employment changes being experienced for many, such as redundancies and lay-offs, it is our hope that visions are still being realised and goals are being pursued as we seek new opportunities on which we may capitalise. We may be able to creatively utilise technology and the virtual space to earn a living as we are propelled without pause into this technological era. Furthermore, it is time to re-engage our traditional and oft-forgotten skills, like sewing, baking, painting, gardening and farming in our efforts.

We have been propelled into a new norm and there are new and innovative ways to achieve our mission. Let us be thankful and optimistic that we are fortunate to be sharing in the experience of this global shift.

As we celebrate International Credit Union Week, let us make a difference and inspire hope for a global community.

IECCU wishes for all its members and their families a Happy Credit Union Week. Keep safe and remember to observe the COVID-19 guidelines as stated by the Government and/or the Ministry of Health.
