1964:
Vice-President of the International Youth for Christ, Mr Sam Wolgemuth and seven Caribbean directors of the movement arrive at the Palisadoes Airport in two private planes to attend the Caribbean Directors’ Conference and Jamaica Youth for Christ Convention.
1967:
Minister of Communications and Works Cleve Lewis and a party of local Civil Aviation officials are taken on a demonstration flight over Kingston i n the Skyvan turboprop aircraft.
1967:
Concern at the consequences of devaluation of the British Pound and possibly of the Jamaican pound as well, is expressed by two leaders of the commercial and industrial community in the island. President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Mr Alec Durie sees Jamaica being faced with financial loss from the devaluation, loss of income to primary producers and a likely rise in the cost of living. Other concern comes from President of the Jamaica Manufacturers Association Ray Hadeed, who believes the devaluation will disrupt Jamaica’s economy. 1969:
A new gas turbine, adding another 16,000 kilowatts of generating capacity to the Jamaica Public Service Company’s electrical supply system, starts operating at the company’s Hunts Bay plant in Kingston. Wilton O. Hill, minister of public utilities and housing, throws a switch in the unit to get it started; and within minutes it is up to full speed of 51,000 revolutions per minute, synchronised into the system and ready to take up load.
