MANDEVILLE, MANCHESTER:

A MANCHESTER businesswoman was found stabbed to death in her car in her driveway in Ingleside Close on Thursday night, sending shockwaves through the quiet community and across the parish.

The woman, 63-year-old Marcia Chin-You, was the former owner of a supermarket in Mandeville.

Manchester Custos Garfield Green said it was a sad end to the life of a great woman who contributed significantly to the growth of the business community in Mandeville for decades.

“It is sad because Mrs Chin-You made significant contribution to Mandeville over the years, and for her to go out like this, it is just sad,” he told The Gleaner. “Crime is just everywhere. There are no boundaries for crime right now ... . The criminals are very brazen and they go for what they want without any regard or fear, and it is sad”

Green said that he is hoping that the police, who has appealed for citizens to share what they know, will make an early breakthrough in the case.

He is also urging business operators to remain alert, especially during the Christmas season.

“We handle cash and sometimes we handle significant amounts of cash and we take it for granted that we can move it by ourselves. At least one person will know you have cash on you, so put some security measures in place. Call the police if you don’t have private security,” he suggested, while not saying that was necessarily the case with Chin-You.

Manchester Chamber of Commerce president Kenisha Dwyer-Powell said the murder was shocking, and also called for persons to not let their guards down.

“To wake up to the news of her, Mrs Chin-You’s murder is very alarming. The business community has been really touched,”she said.“We have seen, over the past couple of weeks, murders within the business community, and it is a cause for concern ... . We urge citizens everywhere to cooperate with the police, say what you know and look out for your neighbours.”

She encouraged all citizens to be very observant and cautious when transacting any form of business.

Superintendent Gary Francis said that Chin-You was stabbed multiple times.

“We are gathering all the information we can to find her killer or killers ... . We are appealing to anyone who is able to assist us to come forward,” he appealed.
