The following events took place on April 29 in the years identified:

1958: One hundred and ten members of the Jamaica Regiment who left the island on April 14 to take part in the ceremonies marking the inaugurati­on of the Federal Parliament in Trinidad, return on the H.M.S. Troubridge, which docks at the Royal Mail Pier.

1960: City Barrister David Coore is sworn in and takes his seat in the Legislativ­e Council. (See related photo below)

1960: First reading is given to six Bills passed by the House of Representa­tives and sent to the Legislativ­e Council for approval. These are; the 1960 Appropriat­ions Bills, the Crown Lands Vesting Bill, the Scientific Research Council Bill, the Bill to amend the Beach Control Law, the Bill to amend the Workmen’s Compensati­on Law and the Bill to amend the United States Bases Law.

1966: Acting Prime Minister Donald Sangster visits post office establishm­ents across the Corporate Area, checking in on the arrangemen­ts to bring the service back to normalcy and discussing other points of interest with Acting Postmaster General, Wilson Brown and Adviser to the Government on Postal Matters, H.S. Hughes.

1971: Cornwall College emerges Champions in the Headley Cup rural secondary cricket competitio­n at Melbourne Park, with an impressive six-wicket victory over Happy Grove.

1975: The Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip visits the ancient town of Port Royal, touring the National Historical Archaeolog­ical Museum.
