A JAMAICAN student in the United States, Audley Lindo has been conferred with a Master of Architecture degree from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU).

Lindo, who hails from Port Antonio, Portland, is a graduate of Titchfield High School and Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While at Titchfield, Lindo was well known for his mannerism, academic pursuits and leadership qualities.

Mother of the outstanding student, Rosemarie ‘Dion’ Lindo, told The Gleaner on Friday that her son’s achievements did not come as a surprise to the family, as during his stay at Titchfield he developed what she described as a passion for academia and was well organised in the way that he studied and prepared himself for external exams.

“My son’s achievement is as a result of hard work and dedication and support from family,” she said.

“He is always studying and pursuing what many deemed as being impossible. As a matter of fact, those who know of his academic pursuits are sending us congratulatory messages. It is a situation where people living in east Portland and elsewhere, who are either friends or close relations, are celebrating his remarkable achievement,” she added.

In addition to receiving the Master’s degree, Lindo also received the Edward Allen award, which is the highest national award by the Building Technology Educator’s Society (BTES) for excellence in innovation and design. He was also awarded the Henry Adam’s Medal by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), which is given to the top-ranking graduate in the architecture programme.

Lindo previously completed his Bachelor’s degree at FAMU and will pursue his career in architectural design with Jacobs Engineering Group, a top-rated firm with offices around the world.

“I always knew that he had it in him to do well. Not only has he made us proud parents, but he has lifted the banner of Portland and Jamaica very high. As a young man, he remains focus and even though he is far away from home, he has not lost focus on the task ahead. I am a proud father and husband and we have always believed and supported education,”said Audley Lindo Sr, father of the student.
