Talkback Friday

-

Several COVID-19 containment measures were relaxed on Wednesday, July 1. Entertainment events, for example, will be now be permitted. We asked The Gleaner’s social media followers how they felt about the changes. Here are some responses from Facebook and Instagram.

I think it is unwise. The level of vaccination needed for herd immunity has not been achieved, and there is a pervading culture of indiscipline among our people. That’s a recipe for disaster.

– Mary Whyte

I’m afraid we will end up like India, dropping like dead dogs over the whole place.

– Winsome Townsend

If we had enough vaccines and were vaccinating people at a faster rate then people would be less nervous. You can’t let out people and then plan for the aftermath. Prevention is better than cure. – @style2glamour

When the third wave hits, nobody better nuh complain.

– @honiechile

Smelling a third wave, especially with emerging Delta variant. – @douglassherine

My problem is the knowledge that our people lack discipline and later on the country suffers the consequences. – @tevralini

People who don’t make money from entertainment don’t want entertainment sector to open. Entertainment is a big sector that feeds a lot of people and same way u want to make money they want to make money too and eat good food just like u. At the end of the day, the government has to come to a decision one day to open back the sector because they ain’t have stimulus money to give away to people. Entertainment is not just about partying; it goes way beyond that, there are so many jobs within the entertainment sector and some a unno fi think and stop be selfish because your pot is always boiling.

– @kevonbluesky

Not comfortable. We are not fully vaccinated. There is going to be a spike. Lots of life’s going down because of carelessness.

– @bernardcoote

Open up to make some money I think. But IDK this virus thing is crazy. What if foreigners bring the delta virus to the party?

– @aritalantic
