SUNDAY SCHOOL MINISTRY

-

CHILDREN CONSTITUTE a great percentage of the society and, to no lesser degree, the church community. The survival of every organisation largely depends on whether or not it successfully passes on to its successive generations its values and heritage through its children.

With this in mind, the Sunday school provides opportunities for interactive learning, while exploring God’s work. So at church, students are placed in classes by age groups, namely: beginners – four to six years, younger children – seven to nine years, older children – 10-12 years, youth 1 – 13-15 years, youth 2 – 16-18 years. Then there are young adults – 19-30 and adults – 31 and older. Here, dedicated teachers are committed to mould lives by teaching and providing instructions based on God’s Word.

At present, there are approximately 50 students enrolled in our Sunday school, including an extended class at Middle Street, which is comprised mainly of boys of various ages.

We are aware that the church community is competing with the mass media in transmitting values to our children; therefore, care must be taken to ingrain Christian values in formative years. Bearing this in mind, the church then seeks to:

• Foster a partnership between home and church.

• Develop and reinforce biblical values in students.

• Teach the Word of God so that students will demonstrate reverence and appreciation for God’s blessings and recognise the need for salvation.

Psalm 119 v 105 reminds us: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Let us commit to continue the journey to teach and build our church, our students, and our nation.
