SDC T20 resumes with weekend quarter-final double
THE 2021 Social Development Commission ( SDC) National Community Twenty20 cricket competition is scheduled to resume today with a doubleheader in the quarter-finals at Chedwin Park in St Catherine.
In the opening match, Paradise from Westmoreland will entertain Old Harbour of St Catherine starting at 9 a.m.
In the second match of the double-header, Orange cricket team from St James will oppose Links United from St Ann.
The games will be played without spectators as part of the Government’s protocols for the resumption of the competition, which was halted in September in light of the new curfew measures that were implemented.
Terrence Richards, senior programmes coordinator of SDC, said they are delighted that the competition will resume and he is looking forward to some very competitive action over the next few days.
“We are expecting to have a great two days of cricket at Chedwin Park because all preparations are in place and the teams are ready and we are just looking forward to getting the competition underway,” Richards said.
“We are playing under the conditions of the Government’s protocols and guidelines and so we have to make sure that everything is in place for the competition,”he said.
Richards pointed out that as part of the restrictions, every player or person who is a part of the coaching staff must take at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Anybody who is coming will have to be vaccinated and we have to make sure that the place is set to accommodate them entering the venue,” he said.
Richards noted that his organisation is still very hopeful that fans will return to the stands for the semi-final rounds of the competition.
“We have applied for permission to have spectators at future matches, but we haven’t gotten a response as yet,” he said.
Meanwhile, in tomorrow’s round of matches at the same venue, Fairfield United from Manchester will take on Sherwood Forest from Portland and Johnson Mountain of St Thomas will battle Race Course from Clarendon.
