REGGAE BOYZ head coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore is set to be sent packing. Whitmore, 49, has been in his second stint as national coach. On Wednesday evening, the executive of the Jamaica Football Federation had a lengthy meeting at which his future was discussed. Here are some readers’ reactions via The Gleaner’s social media pages:

I hope the next coach will perform miracles. I just wish the best for Tappa and for the Reggae Boyz. I wish that they score more goals. They miss too many chances. Still cheering for the black, green and gold.

Tappa gets fired and Ruel still have him job. I’m going into politics.

Void of ideas and a good game plan, don’t even know his best 11 come now at this level. Big joke thing this, he should have been let go months ago.

Well, I hope the Jamaica Football Federation is aware that the lengthy delay to act decisively is a reflection of its management and as such it cannot be Tappa alone! Let’s hope this does not cost us a trip to Qatar. We would have mismanaged arguably the best talent pool of players.

It’s the JFF president and staff that needs firing. How can you enter World Cup games with very few practice games? Inexcusable!

Yet this man has done what most established coaches couldn’t. I know we want to go to the World Cup but just look at the organisation behind Tappa!!

Kudos to Coach Whitmore, I have seen much improvement in the performance of the Jamaica team since their initial matches. They played more like a team now and was very unfortunate not to finish with a win. Based on this performance they are likely to qualify for the finals. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and support them with positive vibes.

This is ridiculous and nonsensical. If you were going to fire or terminate his contract wouldn’t it have been best to do so during the Canada game or couldn’t it have been done after the end of the qualifications next year, as clearly, it’s the same effect being that the team will not make it to the fourth spot? Furthermore, no better coach is available and will be able to restore unity and wins in order to qualify for Qatar 2024. Simply put, all that the federation is now doing is saving themselves some serious cash due to the loss of income during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a huge black eye for the JFF as they could have sought some form of bailout from the finance or sports ministry.
