It is our pleasure to provide a unique experience for all

-

IT IS an honour to serve as executive director in such a monumental year of celebration for Devon House. One hundred and forty years later, Devon House remains a breathtaking beauty that is undeniable. Over the years, this remarkable property has become etched in the hearts and minds of locals and tourists as the perfect place to eat, shop, play and relax. The park atmosphere allows for families and friends to connect and relax together in a space that is central and accessible to all, which is the aspect of which our team is most proud. Tourists and locals alike come to tour the 19th century mansion that once was the home of Jamaica’s first black millionaire, Mr George Stiebel. Mr Stiebel earned his massive wealth from mining in Venezuela, and returned to Jamaica to purchase 99 properties, one of which was 53 acres of land known as ‘Devon’s Pen’, where his family home was built.

Devon House was saved from being demolished by the late former prime minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon Edward Seaga. Additionally, Mr Seaga led the charge in developing this heritage site as a premier attraction with the creation of our world-famous Devon House I Scream and later the development of the Devon Duppy Drink. It is with great pleasure that we work hard as a team to maintain the work of the Most Hon Edward Seaga, while creating new and engaging programmes and products which provide both locals and tourists alike a unique experience that can only be found on our property.

As we celebrate 140 years of excellence, we would also like to extend our gratitude to our staff and partners who have made Devon House what it is today. To our hard-working staff, your efforts do not go unnoticed. We appreciate you wholeheartedly. Special thanks to our board of directors; our chairman Geoffrey Messado; Minister of Tourism Hon Edmund Bartlett, and the Ministry of Tourism; the Tourism Enhancement Fund; the Tourism Product Development Company; and our exceptional Devon House tenants.

MUREEN JAMES Executive Director, Devon House Developments Ltd
