The PSJ continues to pivot in response to COVID-19 pandemic
THE PHARMACEUTICAL Society of Jamaica (PSJ) continues to serve the profession of pharmacy with dedication and distinction. The PSJ continues to pivot in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing varying opportunities to meaningfully engage the pharmacy profession.
As head of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Technology, Jamaica, it is with pleasure that I extend congratulations to the PSJ as they celebrate Pharmacy Week, November 20-26, 2021, under the theme, ‘ Pharmacists: Promoting excellence, empowering the nation’.
The PSJ continues to blaze a trail of excellence. One worth mentioning is the offering of the immunisation and first aid courses. I am sure that the participants, mainly pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, appreciated these trainings as we responded to the needs during the pandemic. Commendations for involving other healthcare professionals i n your activities.
The School of Pharmacy continues to offer a blended modality where most of our face-to-face classes are delivered online as we pivot in this pandemic; at the same time maintaining the quality and excellence of our programmes. We at the School of Pharmacy express our gratitude and appreciation that over the years PSJ continues to foster relationships with us and our students. We are pleased to see that PSJ has also moved online to engage their members more, as was witnessed this year with the launch of the new and improved PSJ website.
PSJ has made a great impact by distinguishing itself as a leader in the healthcare system and being outspoken in many topical issues, such as information related to the COVID vaccination and overall management. PSJ and its members have made several impactful contributions. Some of these have empowered our nation, especially with regard to data published too quickly which misinforms the public. Pharmacists were able to evaluate these data and educate physicians and the public.
Promoting excellence by t he quality of service we offer as a profession, PSJ continues to contribute to t he empowering and building of our nation. The PSJ has reminded the nation that pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare providers, working each day on the front lines and have played a key role in helping to contain the pandemic. Pharmacists are essential healthcare providers working alongside doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
I am grateful for the work of the PSJ in contributing to the needs of the healthcare system, pharmaceutical industries, research and pharmacy education in Jamaica.
I wish you every blessing on all your activities as you celebrate Pharmacy Week 2021.
