Harbour View sign four players ahead of 2022/23 season
IN A bid to retain their 2021/22 Jamaica Premier League (JPL) title, defending champions Harbour View Football Llub have signed four players ahead of the new season which is set to kick off on October 23. The four signees are goalkeepers David Martin and Romario Palma, and midfielders Demar Rose and Trayvon Reid.
Clyde Jureidini, general manager of the five-time JPL champions saw it as an urgent matter of business to bring in two goalkeepers in the transfer window.
“We have a young, emerging goal-keeper in Anthony Bennett and an experienced one in Amal Knight. We had some experiences that were new to us, where both goalkeepers at one stage were invited to national teams, Amal Knight for the senior Reggae Boyz and Bennett for the under 20. We had a third-string goalkeeper who was the only one in training and the only one available for games, that we found tenuous and we couldn’t do anything about it,” said Jureidini.
Attacking 25-year-old midfielder Rose who is moving from Portmore United is a former club member and according to Jureidini the management and coaching staff saw midfield as an area they could strengthen.
“We were always looking for an attacking midfielder. Rose grew up in the Harbour View Football Club from under-13 to under-20 and also played premier league before. We approached him and reached an agreement with Portmore so he’s back in that natural position at a club he knows well,” he added.
Tivoli Gardens loanee Reid also inked a permanent move to the ‘Stars of the East’. The 22-year-old midfielder who was impressive last season, and was instrumental in the team’s offensive game, will be charged to carry over his good run of form with Jureidini eyeing him as a ‘player for the future’.
“He (Reid) came here on loan last season and at the end of the season, we renegotiated the agreement and he is now fully transferred to Harbour View,” said Jureidini.
Goalkeeper Martin won the Manning Cup with Kingston College last year while Palma is a former Central Kingston Major League representative.
