Credit unions to celebrate with week of activities October 16-22

OCTOBER 16-22 will be celebrated as Credit Union Week under the theme ‘Empower Your Financial Future with a Credit Unions’. The theme, which has been shared worldwide by the World Council of Credit Union, aims to target the 1.4 billion people not yet part of a financial institutio­n.

During the week, Jamaica’s 25 credit unions will engage their members and potential members in informatio­nal activities, games, giveaways, special events and prizes. They will also participat­e in community outreach activities at churches, shelters, infirmarie­s, schools, and elsewhere.

On Thursday, October 20, Jamaica’s credit unions will join the 86,451 credit unions worldwide in celebratin­g Internatio­nal Credit Union Day. The celebratio­n has been ceremonial­ly recognised since 1948.

This year, credit unions will celebrate with an Evening at the Movies, at the Palace Amusement Cinema, Carib

5, in Cross Roads. Credit union members and potential members will have the chance to earn compliment­ary tickets from participat­ing credit unions or an affiliate as COK Sodality Co-operative Credit Union, First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union, Postal Co-operative Credit Union, Community and Workers Co-operative Credit Union, PWD Co-operative Credit Union, Insurance Employees Co-operative Credit Union and CUNA Caribbean Insurance Jamaica will be sponsoring movies. The public will also be able to win tickets through giveaways online and on radio.

National Credit Union Week activities are organised by the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League on behalf of credit unions. Credit unions will be announcing their National Credit Union Week appreciati­on activities to their members through traditiona­l and electronic media.
