Jahshii to make Rebel Salute debut
Queen Ifrica rounds out Night 2
DANCEHALL ARTISTE Jahshii will make his Rebel Salute debut on Friday, January 20, at Plantation Cove, St Ann.
The young deejay has been creating ripples with popular songs like 25/8, Keep Up, Born Fighter and Energy. Like many other dancehall acts before him, he will be called on to curate his catalogue to fit the clean music patrons have come to expect at Rebel Salute.
“Jahshii is one of the newest sensations in Jamaican music right now and a big part of the younger generation. It will be interesting to see what he brings to a show like Rebel Salute,” says veteran reggae artiste Tony Rebel, chief executive officer of Organic HEART Group, promoters of Rebel Salute.
Others acts taking the stage on Night 1 are Big Mountain, Rodney Price, Tony Rebel, Yaksta, Kabaka Pyramid, Lady G, Duane Stephenson, Louie Culture, Pluto Shervington and Ernie Smith and Rytikal. Nation Boss, The Abyssinians, Horace Andy, Glen Washington, Papa Michigan, Dennis Walks, Bling Dawg, Heavyweight Rockaz, Naki Wailer, Derajah, Yeza, Phalkon and Raffi, Rocktop Crew and Hya P. Akabu will also perform on the opening night. This year’s Rebel Salute will see the 6th annual Herb Conference, held in association with the St Ann Ganja Growers and Producers Association spanning three days and beginning on Thursday, January 19, at Hotbox Jamaica in Bonham Springs, St Ann. The experience continues throughout the twoday music festival with various exhibits, product displays, educational demonstrations, and an international panel discussion. On site, for the first time in Rebel Salute history, a puff and paint session will also be hosted by the Herb Curb.
Queen Ifrica rounds out the final line-up for ‘The Peoples Show’ on Night 2 on Saturday, January 21. Announcing her performance on her social media, Queen Ifrica, a staple on Rebel Salute, told fans what to expect for the two-day festival. “Yeah man, nice vibes, good energy, clean food, clean music, clean lifestyle, yeah,” in line with the festival’s mission of 29 years — no alcohol, no meat, no weapons, authentic reggae music and edutainment.
Night 2 also features the Dubplate Showcase between DJ Naz Gurlpower, the winner of Guinness Sounds of Greatness 2021, and worldfamous Dynamiq from South Sudan, who more recently competed on the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise. The showcase takes centre stage for the second time since 2020 and could be a featured item on the festival moving forward.
More performances on Night 2 include some of the biggest names in reggae history, like Luciano, Capleton, Sanchez, Leroy Sibbles, Josey Wales and Terry Linen. Other acts include Dancehall King Moses Davis; Ghanaian Afropop, dancehall and reggae musician Stonebwoy; Timoy TJ Jones; I-wayne; I-octane; Chezidek; George Nooks; Leroy Gibbons; Errol Dunkley; Johnny Clarke; Imeru Tafari; Kumar Fyah; Daviannah Tanzie; Abatau; Christopher Ellis; Ras-i, 5 Star Celestial; Echo Minott; Aza Lineage; Junior Holt; Wesrok; Nigi Boy; Kevoy Clarke and Brimstone. Additionally, the live reggae music at the festival is complemented by a rich and diverse food village, which embodies the festival’s non-alcoholic and no-meat philosophy. Patrons will also be treated to an attractive arts village with unique, authentic items such as paintings, sculptures, clothing, and many other popular craft pieces. Rebel Salute is set to be held on January 20 and 21.
