1991:

Audley Wright of Kingston Wheelers Club won the Kentucky Fried Chicken 25-mile Time Trial cycle race from Ferry to Flat Bridge and back. Wright was winning his first major race of the season, and he completed the distance in a time of 59 minutes and 28 seconds, which also enabled him to take top honours in the “A” Class category. 1994:

Governor General Sir Howard Cooke left Jamaica for a brief visit to Boston, Massachuse­tts, USA. He was accompanie­d by his Aide-deCamp, Andre Sterling. Dr Osmond Tomlinson, Custos Rotulorum of the parish of St Ann was sworn in to act during Sir Howard’s absence. 1995:

The European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed to provide another US$25 million at concession­ary rates to Jamaica. Finance Minister, Omar Davies and the EIB’s ACP director, Jean-Louis Biancarell­i, signed the agreement at the Ministry of Finance office at Heroes Circle in Kingston. 1997:

As a Government­supported training workshop for Caribbean labour inspectors got underway, President of the National Workers Union (NWU), Clive Dobson said that the Ministry of Labour is not effectivel­y monitoring safety standards at the workplace. The week-long workshop opened at the Altamont Court Hotel in New Kingston and was organised by the Caribbean Office of the Internatio­nal Labour Organisati­on (ILO) along with the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Sport. Dobson said the infrastruc­ture in the Ministry to monitor occupation­al health and safety standards in local work sites was ‘almost defunct”.
