Honours even in Lynk Cup semifinal
PORTMORE UNITED striker Chevaughn Walsh continued his fine scoring form in the Lynk Cup KO competition when he scored a brace to help his team to a 2-2 draw with Harbour View in the first leg of the semifinals at the Stadium East yesterday.
The big striker fired Portmore ahead after 33rd minute but goals from Jahshaun Anglin (42nd) and Christojaye Daley (53rd) put the east Kingston-based Harbour View 2-1 up at half-time.
However, Walsh struck again in the 73rd minute to level the tie going into next week’s second leg.
“As a striker if you are scoring goals, you have to be grateful. We just have to go back to the drawing board and try to win the second leg. The greatest thing is we didn’t lose the game, so we have everything to play for on Friday,”Walsh said.
Nevertheless, he said they were not at their very best on the night and the result was a fair one.
“We didn’t start the game the way we wanted. We played in patches so we can’t complain about the result,” he continued.
“I just hope I can continue (scoring goals) for the remainder of the tournament. This is the only silverware we have to look forward to, so we just have to give our all for this,” he added.
EQUALISER
Portmore jumped in front when Walsh turned home a cross from Alvinus Myers. However, Harbour View equalised three minutes before the break when Anglin beat Portmore goalkeeper Wlliam Benjamin at his near post from an angled free kick.
Harbour View the inched ahead and when Odorland Harding was brought down inside the area by Benjamin and Daley fired home from the penalty spot to put Ludlow Bernard’s team 2-1 up at the break.
However, Portmore fought back and in the 73rd minute Walsh capitalised on a defensive mistake by Casseam Priestly, from Alex Marshall’s intelligent first time pass, and fired past Romario Palma in goal for Harbour View.
“I thought it was unfortunate to lose our grip on the game,” Harbour View coach Bernard stated. “We were managing very well and got the goals we wanted. We wanted bring on some substitutes but a mistake at the back, which could have been dealt with better, cost us. But after that we were content to hold on to the 2-2 draw.”
