The following events took place on May 13 in the years identified: 1966:

The Senate met for half an hour, its only business being the passage of the Appropriat­ion Act, 1966, in connection with the Budget already passed in the House of Representa­tives. Attorney General, Senator Victor Grant, piloted the act through it stages and in doing so, referred to the Budget as “the biggest and best ever”.

1980:

Kingston College (KC) scored an impressive 69-run win over Tivoli Comprehens­ive at Sabina Park to retain the Sunlight Cup, symbol of secondary schoolboy cricket supremacy in the Corporate Area, for the second consecutiv­e year. Tivoli, 38 for 5 overnight, chasing a target of 158, lasted only an hour and 15 minutes as KC’s skipper, Marlon Tucker, in a penetrativ­e spell of right-arm off-spin bowling, takes four for six off six overs. Final scores were KC 157 and Tivoli 88.

1981:

Apprentice rider Desmond Smith captured the spotlight at Caymanas Park when he booted home three winners from as many rides on the nine-race charity programme in aid of the Jamaica Racing Commission Benefit Scheme.

1988:

Tim Eggar, member of parliament, undersecre­tary of state in Britain’s Foreign and Commonweal­th Office, told The Gleaner, at Jamaica House, that his talks with Jamaican officials were “very useful”. Eggar, who was on a four-day visit to Jamaica to acquaint himself with developmen­ts in the island, had closed-door meetings with Jamaican officials, including Prime Minister Edward Seaga. The nature of the talks was not disclosed.
