Blake joins the big boys Lyles, Coleman at Bermuda Grand Prix
JAMAICAN SPRINTER Ackeem Blake heads a strong Jamaican contingent competing in today’s Bermuda Grand Prix but will be seriously tested as he lines up against world 200m champion Noah Lyles and former 100m world champion Cristian Coleman.
Blake, along with Jamaican compatriot, Sachim Dennis, will be facing Coleman and Lyles in the 100m. It will be Blake’s first race since April 22 at Velocity Fest 13 when he recorded 9.99 in the heats, but was disqualified in the final for a false start. Kadrian Goldson, Michael Campbell and Jevaughn Whyte will compete in the men’s 100m B race.
In the women’s 100m B section, Remona Burchell, Jonielle Smith and world championship 4x100m silver medallist, Kemba Nelson, will be in action while Sashalee Forbes will be in the A final. Ashanti Moore is slated to run in the women’s 200m, taking on America’s Abby Steiner and Bahamian Athonique Strachan.
The men’s 400m will feature Javon Francis and Demish Gaye, who will face Kévin Borlée of Belgium as well as reigning Olympic champion Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas.
World and Olympic 4x400m relay medallist Candice McLeod is the sole Jamaican competing in the women’s 400m in an Americandominated field highlighted by former world and Olympic 400m hurdles champion Dalilah Muhammad.
WILLIAMS, TAPPER FOR HURDLES
Former world champion Danielle Williams and Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Megan Tapper will be in action in the women’s 100m hurdles where they will both face off against Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho Quinn.
Andrenett Knight, Ronda Whyte and Shian Salmon will be in action in the women’s 400m hurdles while Jazmine Fray is slated to run the women’s 800m.
The lone Jamaican competing in the field at the meet will be long jumper Chanice Porter. Jamaica will also field teams to compete in the men’s and women’s 4x100m.
