Runaway Algo destroys Seeking My Dream field

- Ainsley Walters Gleaner Writer

RUNAWAY ALGO destroyed open-allowance runners in yesterday’s Seeking My Dream, clocking a blistering 1:30.4 for seven and a half furlongs, the exact time he posted at the distance last September.

The writing was on the wall from the off with distance-specialist CALCULUS being an unlikely chaser down the backstretch, tracking RUNAWAY ALGO in kindergarten fractions of 35.2 for the first three furlongs.

It was goodbye time leaving the half-mile marker after RUNAWAY ALGO accelerated into 47.0 and 59.2 on his bridle entering the straight.

By the time Linton Steadman applied two underhand reminders a furlong out, RUNAWAY ALGO had left the field for dead in a six-furlong split of 1:10.2, sprinting clear in 1:23.3 for seven, rounded off by 7.1 seconds for the last half-furlong.

RUNAWAY ALGO’s winning margin of thirteen and a half lengths confirmed his status as a grade-one runner, who belongs nowhere near open-allowance company.

BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES

CALCULUS outfinished BLUE VINYL for second, rallying in the stretch run after being headed off by the four-yearold, who was hyped at 6-5 in the betting after impressive back-to-back victories in overnight allowance events.

The first of three meets to mark the Labour Day Carnival, which continues Monday and Tuesday, the 10-race card was rocked by 13-1 outsider SCHESLINGER in the opening event at three and a half furlongs straight.

Freshly minted trainers, Michael Spencer and Oral Hayden, joined Paul Swaby from last Saturday with winners on their first starts.

Spencer got his career off the mark with SNIPER MAN in the third, whereas Hayden’s ESSENTIAL QUALITY made all in the sixth.
