Jockey Thomas stars with four-timer

ANTHONY THOMAS stole day two of the Labour Day Carnival yesterday, topping off a hat trick with a fourth winner, closing the nine-race card with 9-5 secondfavourite PRINCESS SHARON in the Monday Morning Trophy at seven furlongs.

An impressive winner on her April 10 debut, Fitzroy Glispie’s PRINCESS SHARON dived in at the deep end for her next start, taking on the best three-year-old fillies in the land in the Portmore going half-furlong longer.

Fitted with visor after being slowly away when winning on debut, PRINCESS SHARON showed no love for the equipment, finishing eighth in the 13-horse field, facing torrid splits set by MAMMA MIA and BOOTYLICIOUS.

Returning from her baptism of fire minus the visor, but fitted with a tongue tie, PRINCESS SHARON relished the milder pace, making a bid for the lead at the half-mile marker, going past BOASEY and NATURAL DANCER three furlongs out.

SENSATIONAL MOVE, installed the 6-5 favourite after placing third in the Kingston, the colts’ and geldings’ version of the Portmore, circled rivals off the home turn in a bid to run down PRINCESS SHARON.

However, the filly quickened away early in the stretch run, having enough in the tank to last home by three-quarter length clocking 1:27.3 ahead of ALL FOR LOVE charging off the pace.

Thomas’ hat trick started at the second event with NINA DORADA, who made all at five and a half furlongs, ironically fighting off SIR FREDERICK, whose trainer, Steven Todd, the three-timer champion jockey returned to hand back-to-back winners, WILL THE CONQUEROR and HECANDANCE.

Racing continues this afternoon with the Labour Day Trophy as the feature event.
