HYDEL HIGH’S Abigail Campbell and Nickecoy Bramwell of Calabar High were the two best performers at last Saturday’s McKenley-Wint Classics at Calabar. Both posted personal best times in winning their events.

Campbell, formerly of Ferncourt High, was in fantastic form after producing 53.22 seconds to win the Class One 400 metres, the fastest time in the event at the meet among female athletes.

Drawn in Lane Five of her heat, Campbell was quickly away out of the blocks and ran a controlled race throughout for her impressive win. Her teammate, Alliah Baker, was second overall in 55.04, with Ryana Dennis of St Mary High third overall in 56.80.

Campbell’s win gave Hydel a sweep of the 400m in all classes, and she was very pleased with her performance.

“I am happy for the win and also doing my best time in the event. I just followed my coach’s advice by executing well, and I am hoping to run a low 52 seconds this season,” said Campbell.

Jody Ann Daley captured the Class Two event in 55.25. Teammate Natasia Fletcher was second overall in 55.74, and Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High was third best in 55.04.

PERSONAL BEST

Sashana Johnson closed out Hydel’s wins in Class Three after posting a personal best 56.59. Sheldain Johnson (59.08) of William Knibb and St Mary High’s Kaleisha Bell (59.24) were second and third overall, respectively.

Hydel also shone brightly in the hurdles events. They started the day with the top three places in the 400m open hurdles as Aaliyah Mullings won in 1:00.49, ahead of Natassia Fletcher 1:02.84 and Taefa Gowe 1:04.12.

Aalliah Baker won the Class One 100m hurdles in 11.71, ahead of teammate Shania Myers, 12.13. Daley scored a second win on the day after capturing the Class Two 100m hurdles in a personal best 13.54, just ahead of Wolmer’s Girls’ Tiana Marshall, 13.63. Ameika Carnegie of Hydel took the Class Three 80m hurdles in a personal best 11.96 while teammate Arrion Nelson was second in the Class Four 70m hurdles in 11.13, the same time awarded to winner Imani Crawford of Convent of Mercy, Alpha.

Bramwell was the star performer among the boys as he continued his redhot early season form by capturing two events in record times. He first won the Class Two 100m in 10.94, head of Thomas Daley of Cornwall College, 11.04. He then returned later to win the 400m in 46.75, the fastest time so far this season in the event by a schoolboy. Jabari Matheson of William Knibb was second in 48.67.

Bramwell’s teammates, Zacre Braham, Divondrae Matthews, and Junior Gallimore also tasted success on the day. Braham won the Class One 110m hurdles in 14.46. Matthews won the Class Three 100mh in 13.62 while Gallimore took the Class One 400m hurdles in a personal best 52.61.
