Embrace creative pursuits

-

IN A world obsessed with results and productivity, we often find ourselves trapped in the web of outcomes and results of our efforts. We all have heard the well-known saying “God has created the universe”. This has raised queries in our hearts - Why did He create, what was the purpose behind His creation, or what did He get from it?

In the pursuit of being ‘someone’, seeking validation, and achieving results, we fail to recognise the absence of true creativity. Human’s every product, from the most intricate machines to the simplest tools, is tainted by its utilitarian purpose. We have become just producers, and manufacturers, not the creators any more.

PRODUCTION VS CREATION

Reflecting on our actions, it becomes imperative to ask ourselves whether we engage in any activity purely for the joy it brings. Have we forgotten how to cultivate joy in the process without fixating on the outcome? The modern world has coerced us into a relentless race where the pursuit of success has eclipsed the intrinsic joy derived from our endeavours. Even our children now engage in games with an eye on winning rather than savouring the sheer joy of playing.

Unlike the creator of the universe, whose creation was an expression of pure joy without any ulterior motive, humans find themselves tethered to the outcomes of every action. The yearning for joy persists as we struggle to find satisfaction in our achievements. For example, a mother cooks awaiting appreciation of her food; a gardener plants seeds, anticipating flowers or fruits; a teacher imparts knowledge, aspiring for the success of students who will glorify his name. Our actions are steeped in results, leaving no room for the spontaneous joy that comes from the act itself. The antidote to this joyless existence lies in rediscovering our creativity. Embracing the creator within us requires a departure from the constant validation of tangible outcomes.

DO IT FOR JOY

Taking time each day to engage in at least one activity solely for joy’s sake is the greatest need of the hour. Singing without reason, dancing without occasion, writing poetry for personal satisfaction, hugging a stranger, etc. can rekindle the dormant spark of creativity within. Find something that is joyful in just doing itself. By indulging in activities that bring personal delight, one builds the bridge to connect with the supreme creator. We never say the universe is produced by God because the creation itself was the joy. There was no separate purpose behind it. We are empowered by being creative.

So, let us embrace the creative force within. Be a little purposeless and carefree of the outcomes and take time out to do one act in a day, just for the joy of doing, and recharge yourself.
