Roman bags six at Caymanas Park

- Ainsley Walters/Gleaner Writer

RADDESH ROMAN catapulted to the top of the jockeys’ standings yesterday with a six-timer, eight winners at the weekend, following his two-timer on Saturday.

Sweeping the James B Dawes Memorial at contrasting odds, SENSATIONAL MOVE at 4-5 and A GIFT FROM BEN at 9-1 in back-to-back races, Roman closed his six-timer with a last-to-first win astride 5-1 chance WOW HOW at a mile in the night pan.

Having earlier logged victories astride money-back favourite CROWN CHASER, 5-1 shot DODGE THIS LINK and 18-1 upsetter GREAT WAYNE, the in-form rider jumped to 13 winners, seven clear of Tevin Foster, runner-up to last year’s champion rider, Reyan Lewis, who has been off to a stuttering start, one win from two mounts for all of January.

SENSATIONAL MOVE, as expected, outclassed his seven rivals at five and a half furlongs, disputing the lead coming off the home turn with RAMBLING ROSE and American debutant OASIS JAK, before quickening away to win in an impressive 1:05.4.

A GIFT FROM BEN proved how badly the likes of DUKE, GOD OF LOVE and BRINKS have lost form, easily taking control at the half-mile marker in division two, cruising into the lane with Roman.

Staving off a two-pronged attack from GOD OF LOVE and United States-bred debutante and 1-5 favourite, PROVOCATIVA, A GIFT FROM BEN won four lengths clear of MILOS closing along the rail, clocking 1:06.4.

WOW HOW closed a two-timer for trainer Anthony Nunes, whose CROWN CHASER, was an 11-length winner of the second event for three-year-old maidens at six and a half furlongs.

Racing continues in February with backto-back Saturday meets followed by Ash Wednesday midweek action.
