Digicel CEO swings for more young golfers

-

GETTING MORE young people into the game of golf continues to be the passion and mission of Digicel CEO, Stephen Murad.

He’s calling for greater support for a national development programme to identify, train, and develop Jamaica’s most promising young players. Murad made the call while speaking at the fifth staging of the Caymanas Corporate Classic, held on Saturday at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine.

In addition to learning the mechanics and developing a flair for the game, Murad also believes that golf helps with building other more important life skills.

“What an amazing sport to bring discipline and structure to our youth today. I think that this is important more than ever before, because we get the chance to move our young golfers from grassroots to greatness on and off the course,” said Murad.

Known for its mission of inspiring and supporting young people to participate in sports activities, Digicel, through Murad, continues to welcome greater inclusion of boys and girls in golf tournaments.

As presenting sponsor of the 2024 Caymanas Corporate Classic, and associate sponsor of the Sandals Golf and Jerk Festival in 2023, Murad was delighted to see the inclusion of young golfers who either joined senior teams or played among their age group.

HIGHEST LEVELS

“It is important for us to do all that we can to nurture the next generation of golfers so that they can reach the highest levels in the sport, all the way through to representing Jamaica on the world stage,” Murad commented.

The Digicel CEO made the comments shortly after handing over prizes to the winning teams in the 2024 Caymanas Corporate Challenge.

First place went to the MicroLabs Limited team of Johann Campbell, Zandre Roye, Oshaye Haye and Elvis Dinham.

Second was the tTech team of Teddy Alexander, Diane Hudson, Fred Sutherland and Kristian Chin, while third went to Synergy Design, with Bruce Lopez, Sebastian Ogden, Justin Murray and PJ Holmes.

Tritel Services, including Wayne Chai Chong, Michael Chai Chong, William Mahfood and Keith Stein, rounded out the top four places.

Through its Digicel Business brand, the company has been collaborating with organisers of the major local golf tournaments to support charitable causes and propel its passion for fostering a pathway to greatness for Jamaica’s next generation of golfers.
