Enjoy the credit union experience

-

SEASON’S GREETINGS and a special happy new year greeting to all Jamaicans and credit union members in particular.

On behalf of the board of directors of the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League Ltd (JCCUL), the national association of credit unions, I wish you a new year filled with abundant prosperity and bright hope for the future.

In the year just ended, and the 82 years since the founding of credit unions in Jamaica, these financial co-operatives have played a significant role in improving the financial well-being of over one million Jamaicans. It is a fact that credit unions are a life force for many persons for whom the sustainability of their economic growth is maintained because of their financial relationships with credit unions. We would like to see this trend continue to grow in 2024.

TRUE FINANCIAL PARTNERS

Thank you to all credit union members who stayed close to their credit unions in 2023, finding them to be true financial partners.

A blessed and prosperous new year to you.

Big thank you also to the management and staff of credit unions who continue to give exemplary service to members. It is my wish that all of your plans for the future development of your individual credit unions will succeed greatly in this year and beyond.

I also want to thank credit union volunteers throughout Jamaica who have continued to give of their time and expertise to help to guide the movement towards greater success. This movement, nationally and some regionally, has benefited tremendously from your work, and they all look forward to working with you again in the new year.

2023 is history but is not to be forgotten. Many memorable events marked the year, some inspiring, others not so inspiring, but all provided stepping stones towards the future development of the movement.

This year, we look forward to welcoming many more youth and young adults to membership in credit unions. It is the best-kept secret that many individuals who are successful today got their start with credit unions. From their first piece of furniture to their first car, their first degree, to their first house, the credit union was their financial partner. The philosophy of ‘people helping people to succeed’ remains strong in credit unions and is still a good reason to join a credit union today. We, therefore, look forward to welcoming a younger demographic (18-35 years of age) to the movement as we give you a much-needed start the co-operative way.

Credit unions have taken a giant leap into the future with technology now a driving force in our service delivery. Come and experience the joy of online, on-time service via the Credit Union AccessPlus Debit Mastercard, packaged to adapt to your lifestyle.

CONTINUE THE TRADITION

This year, credit unions will continue the tradition of providing scholarships to hundreds of students as we did last year with grants of over $20 million. Get into your credit unions, save, borrow, and look for more educational opportunities.

Our credit unions will continue to be a beacon in their communities. Many credit unions have opened their common bonds so that many more Jamaicans can experience the modernised services and the feeling of family that comes with being a credit union member. We remain committed to serving our members through our extensive branch network with approximately 118 branch locations across the 14 parishes. After all, my credit union is my family.

God bless you all as we work together in 2024 on plans for the future growth of the Credit Union Movement.
