THE JAMAICA Manufactur­ers and Exporters Associatio­n (JMEA) recognises the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) as an indispensa­ble and enduring partner in driving progress within the manufactur­ing and export sectors. We are therefore pleased to recognise the impact of the JCA’s invaluable contributi­on to the Jamaican economy, and the pivotal role it has played in promoting economic growth in Jamaica.

We applaud the JCA for its commitment to not only ensuring the protection of our borders, but also creating an environmen­t that encourages innovation, efficiency, and economic resilience. The agency’s proactive approach in adapting to the evolving global landscape, embracing technologi­cal advancemen­ts, and facilitati­ng seamless interfaces between customs procedures and the business community deserves commendati­on. These initiative­s not only streamline processes, but also position Jamaica as a competitiv­e player in the global marketplac­e.

Significan­t investment­s aimed at modernisin­g port systems further underscore the commitment of the JCA. The adoption of the Automated System for Customs Data is notable, showcasing the JCA’s dedication to providing world-class service.

Commendati­ons is also given to t he Government of Jamaica for its endeavours to revise the Customs Act, aiming to establish an environmen­t that enhances trading opportunit­ies, thereby placing the manufactur­ing and export sectors in an advantageo­us position to present a broader range of export products in new markets, thus creating enhanced opportunit­ies for stakeholde­rs within the industry through the local business community.

The modernisat­ion of customs procedures is in close alignment with the JMEA’s goals, fostering an environmen­t conducive to business expansion and the growth of manufactur­ing capacities. The JMEA sees the JCA as a key partner in growing the contributi­on of the manufactur­ing sector to GDP by December 2025, resulting in manufactur­ing output of J$81 billion.

As we celebrate Internatio­nal Customs Day, our gratitude extends to the JCA for its unwavering commitment to excellence, collaborat­ion, and innovation. Together, we envision a future where we can collective­ly build a resilient economy, propel manufactur­ing growth, and position Jamaica as a formidable force in the global marketplac­e.
