Olympians Cameron, Campbell to be honoured at Jamalco meet
OLYMPIANS JULIET Campbell and Bertland Cameron will be two of four honourees at today’s 31st staging of the JAAA/Puma/ Jamalco meet at the Jamalco Sports Club in Clarendon. Events will start at 9 a.m.
Administrator and Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association executive member Juliet Parkes Livermore and former 800 metres runner Alex Morgan, a past Jamalco club member, will also be honoured at the meet. Several trophies will also be up for grabs and they are named after some outstanding former national senior athletes.
Class One and 800m open women will compete for the Inez Turner Trophy, Class One and open 800m males will compete for the Neville Myton/Seymour Newman Trophy while Class One and 400m open males will vie for the Michael McDonald Trophy.
According to meet chairman Dennis May all is set for an exciting day of action.
“More than 500 athletes from clubs and institutions, high and primary schools will be in attendance. We have introduced a 4x100m relay for Class Four and primary school athletes as this will be used as development for these young athletes,” he stated.
The meet, which will start with the women’s 3000m open, will include 5000m open for men, 200m open for clubs and institutions, 400m and 800m for Classes One to Three for high school males and females along with 4x400m mixed relay for high schools.
Three other development meets are down for today. The National Stadium will host the Youngster Goldsmith Classics, the Eastern Invitational Track and Field meet will be held at Lyssons Oval in St Thomas and the Fervet Distance Meet will be held at Jamaica College. The first two meets start at 9 a.m while the Jamaica College meet will start at 4 p.m.
