JAMAICA’S RENOWNED tourist gem, Mystic Mountain, is set to welcome visitors once again early next month, just in time for the peak of the winter tourist season.

Incoming CEO and managing director Michael Drakulich announced the reopening following extensive inspections and enhancements. This positive development comes a few months after the attraction faced closure due to financial challenges, leading Mystic Mountain (MM) Limited to file for bankruptcy.

Northjam Island Tours Limited (Northjam), a Jamaica-based investment company, has stepped in and taken ownership of the property. Notably, workers who were affected by the closure when their positions were made redundant have been rehired, signalling a new chapter for the iconic tourist attraction.

“Northjam has conducted thorough inspections of all its assets and rides, unveiling a fresh look and feel for the renowned adventure park,” said Drakulich, the original founder of the facility.

He emphasises the company’s commitment to fostering and evolving the development of tourism on the island.

Sharing Northjam’s dedication to a significant investment over the next few years, aiming to enhance facilities and product offerings at Mystic Mountain, Drakulich said the attraction was poised to showcase a modern aesthetic, providing visitors with an immersive and captivating experience.

PLANS

He outlined plans for the installation of new photo, point-of-sale, ticketing, and reservation systems. Additionally, a complete overhaul of the kitchen and restaurant is under way, with the museum transforming into a pizza and ice cream parlour. A bar and customised coffee shop will be welcome additions.

Wayne Cummings, a prominent Montego Bay businessman and director on the Northjam board, expressed confidence in the project’s imminent reopening. He said he saw it as a testament to the industry’s trust and a reflection of the growing interest in unique, authentic island investments that contribute to enhancing Jamaica’s overall tourism landscape.

With extensive experience in the hospitality sector, Cummings joins the Mystic Mountain team with valuable knowledge.

Northjam plans to resume operations at Mystic Mountain in early March, envisioning the site as a future hub of entertainment and seasonal celebrations, both day and night.
