The following events took place on February 6 in the years identified:

1968: PrimeMinis­terHugh Shearer announced in the House of Representa­tives that the Government has decided to set up a Sugar Industry Advisory Council, as recommende­d by the Mordecai Commission’s Report on the Industry, to advise the Government on the implementa­tion of other recommenda­tions in the report.

1971: Jamaica fought back on the second day of their four-day game against the Indian cricketers at Sabina Park in the first game for the tourists on their third tour of the West Indies. Jamaica claimed the last five Indian wickets for 26 runs in 50 minutes before lunch and, at the close, were 82 behind with four wickets still intact.

1971: Unionized workers of Air Jamaica went on strike at Palisadoes Airport following the suspension of two members of their office staff by management. Customer service, line crew and mechanic staff walked off their jobs about 1:00pm.

1973: Prime Minister Michael Manley received British High Commission­er to Jamaica Edward N. Lamour, who was reassigned to the Foreign and Commonweal­th Office in London. A Jamaica Informatio­n Service release stated that during the brief discussion­s at Jamaica House, Manley thanked the British government for its technical assistance to Jamaica.

1977: President of the Inter American Developmen­t Bank Mr Antonio Ortiz-Mena arrived in Jamaica to hold high level discussion­s with the Government concerning Jamaica’s developmen­t programme for the next four to five years and to get an idea of how the bank can help in financing the programmes.
