Farmers, residents urged to support Hague 2024

THE 67TH renewal of the Hague Agricultural and Agricultural Show is set for February 13 and 14, and Audrey Nelson, president of Trelawny Association of Branch Societies (TABS) which has over 200 members, is optimistic about the staging of the 2024 renewal.

“I am not saying it will be the best ever. I will say it will be one of the better shows. On the first day the focus will be devoted to educational activities. The schools have responded to the invitation and are prepared to display products from their school gardens,” Nelson said.

“It is the second-largest show of its kind in Jamaica. Hague sets the stage for the rest of the show calendar for the year. It was once rated highly as a livestock show. The beef industry is down now but I expect it to rebound soon. The show will have a very good display of small ruminants,” Nelson said.

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society Lenworth Fulton is happy about the staging of the show. He told The Gleaner that many of the chemical companies will have booths. “These chemical companies will have on display the latest technology which they have created both to improve production and weed control.”

Farmers and residents of Trelawny are encouraged to support Hague 2024.

“Any profit made from the show will stay with TABS to help farmers in their purchase of chemicals and fertilisers. The show must now look towards being an income generator to benefit farmers,” noted Fulton.

The 67th renewal will also have the usual booths from groups which are members of TABS.

According to Nelson, patrons will be able to make purchases of ground provisions and vegetables at the event.
