Lead-up fundraising events spark excitement for upcoming Sagicor Sigma Run

-

THE COUNTDOWN to the 26th staging of the Sagicor Sigma Honour Run, set for February 18, is in full swing as scores of supporters turned out to a series of lead-up activities aimed at raising funds for the event’s ambitious $100 million fundraising target.

The lead-up activities commenced with the highly anticipated Sigma Pop-Up Café on November 10, 2023, and January 20, 2024, at the Pedestrian Mall of the R. Danny Williams Building and the Sagicor Bank Liguanea Branch, respectively. Catering to Kingston-based running clubs, the Café provided runners with a well-deserved opportunity to unwind after their customary 5 a.m. run. Attendees were treated to complimentary massages from Rehab Oasis and indulged in a wide array of breakfast and beverage options. Runners and passersby also had the chance to register for the upcoming Sagicor Sigma Honour Run and purchase their Sigma gear, further fuelling excitement for the main event.

Also adding to the pre-event excitement was the Sigma Hydration Pop-Up at Palisadoes on January 24. Sponsored by Catherine’s Peak and Gatorade, the event gave people who usually run or walk along the Palisadoes route an opportunity to stay hydrated while supporting the fundraising efforts by purchasing water and Gatorade.

Following the success of this event, the second edition of the Sagicor Sigma Food Village took centrestage at the Sagicor R. Danny Williams Building on January 26. This culinary extravaganza treated attendees to a diverse and tantalising culinary experience, featuring vendors such as Krispy Kreme, Mama’s Pasta & Grill, Bad Dawg, CB Chicken, Netty’s Farm, Jabba’s Peppa Swims, among others. The event also offered entertainment by DJ Chaddy G and a lively dance contest, adding an extra layer of excitement to the festivities. Sagicor staff and members of the public had the opportunity to purchase shirts from the Sigma Shop for the upcoming race, fostering a sense of company pride while contributing to a worthy cause.

The lead-up excitement is not over yet, as a gallery honouring the memory of R. Danny Williams will be open from February 9 to 16, in the lobby of the R. Danny Williams Building, while the Sagicor Sigma Honour Run will soon host an after-work fundraising concert featuring delicious food and lively entertainment.

All proceeds from the events will go to this year’s beneficiaries: the Savanna-la-Mar General Hospital, the National Chest Hospital, and the Danny Williams School for the Deaf. As the date nears when thousands will take to the streets of Kingston to run for a cause, Christopher Zacca, president and CEO of Sagicor Group Jamaica, has urged, “We’re encouraging everyone to chip in, no donation is too small. Give from the heart, and know you’re making a difference in shaping a better future for the next generation.”
