Congratulations on reaching this extraordinary 85th anniversary

-

I EXTEND my heartfelt congratulations to the Shipping Association of Jamaica as it celebrates its remarkable 85th anniversary, a testament to the enduring legacy of an esteemed institution. This milestone not only signifies the passage of time but also honours the foresight and determination of a group of visionary businessmen who, on January 27, 1939, officially established the Shipping Association of Jamaica.

From its inception, the SAJ mandate was to enhance employment conditions, establish standardised rates for labour on wharves and ships, and advocate for equitable wages for a day’s work. These goals played a pivotal role in reshaping the industrial landscape of shipping in Kingston and, by extension, Jamaica.

Through its existence, the SAJ has consistently led the charge for progress, contributing significantly to the development and success of the Kingston Waterfront and many micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. The unwavering commitment of the SAJ to the growth of our shipping ports has been a driving force in shaping Jamaica’s economic trajectory.

I commend the Shipping Association of Jamaica for its remarkable achievements and its ongoing dedication to the economic development of our beloved nation. May this significant milestone serve as a poignant reminder of the substantial impact the SAJ has made over the years, instilling confidence in its future endeavours.

Once again, congratulations on reaching this extraordinary 85th anniversary, and I extend my best wishes to the Shipping Association of Jamaica for continued success in the years to come.
