Guyana’s Beaton suspended over bowling action
GUYANA HARPY Eagles fast bowler Ronsford Beaton has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for a fourth time.
The 31-year-old’s action was found to be excess of“the level of tolerance for extension of the elbow” after undergoing analysis at the well-known Loughborough University. Beaton, who played two One-Day Internationals for West Indies seven years ago, was called by match officials while playing for Harpy Eagles in the opening round of the West Indies Championship against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in St Kitts last week.
He finished with two for 39 from 12 overs in the game, which ended in a no-result after the last three days were washed out.
After being reported, video of Beaton’s action, along with a written report, was sent to a Cricket West Indies (CWI) Bowling Review Group (BRG) and Loughborough University for analysis.
“On Sunday, CWI confirmed that the Opinion Report by the Independent Assessor at Loughborough University has found Beaton’s bowling action to be illegal, and as such, he has been suspended from bowling in all West Indies international and regional matches with immediate effect,” CWI said in a media statement.
“The assessment revealed that Beaton’s deliveries exceeded the level of tolerance for extension of the elbow permitted under playing regulations.
“As per the International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, the suspension will also apply to all other domestic leagues worldwide. “Beaton will remain suspended until such time as his action is found to be legal either by an Opinion Report from Loughborough University or by an independent analysis from an accredited ICC testing centre in accordance with the CWI Regulations for Dealing with Suspected Illegal Bowling Actions.”
It is the fourth time Beaton has been banned from bowling in international cricket, due to an illegal action, after being hit by similar suspensions in 2018, 2019, and in 2023.
