CRIME SCENE investigators in St Andrew were kept busy on Tuesday following the shooting and attempted robbery of a Chinese businessman at his Oakland Apartments and the murder of a social media personality.

About 8:45 a.m., the police responded to a distress call after gunmen reportedly entered the gated St Andrew complex and shot the businessman, who was reportedly on his way out.

The crime shocked several neighbours, some of whom were just two blocks away but only alerted to the incident by the heavy police presence and cordoned tape.

“Is hear I hear a woman a scream for help, but at first, I thought it was a domestic situation, but persons say they saw a car speed off … . This is a cause for concern because there is security at the entrance,” one resident told The Gleaner.

A temporary resident, who was staying at an Airbnb, told The Gleaner they were fast asleep and had no idea what was going on.

“I was in shock. I didn’t expect that here. That’s why we chose to stay here. It’s convenient and we thought it was safe. Look at that! Just two blocks away,” the American visitor said as investigators processed the scene, which had blood and spent casings.

The i njured man, who was reportedly shot in the hand, was taken to hospital. His injury was not considered life-threatening, sources told our newsroom.

From there, the police were summoned to the Guava Gap main road in the St Andrew hills.

On arrival at a section of the community called ‘Woman Hole’, they found a male social media personality, known only as ‘Body Good’, in a pool of blood.

Up to late Tuesday evening, the police had not determined his correct name, but the Guava Gap residents said he was unknown to them.

“We reach before the police dem, after we hear the explosion … . Dem throw him out a car and a right deh so him bleed out. A headshot dem give him … . Nuff people know him from TikTok,” one resident said.

Checks by The Gleaner unearthed that the deceased had almost 21,000 followers on the social media platform.

His most recent live interaction with his followers took place on Tuesday morning.

The gun attack left several persons inconvenienced for long hours as the police cordoned off a section of the usually busy corridor as they collected evidence.

As at February 3, the St Andrew North Police Division had recorded only one murder – a 67 per cent reduction, or two fewer murders, than the corresponding period in 2023.

There was also a 25 per cent decline in robberies.
