Corporate Area Development Meet adds cash incentives
WHEN THE two-day Corporate Area Development Meet gets under way at the Ashenheim Stadium at Jamaica College tomorrow, there will be added incentives for the top teams.
“Over $600,000 will be up for grabs at this year’s meet as the top three male and female teams will get $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 [in order of placement],” said Ricky Martin, meet director.
“In addition, trophies will be given to the top three teams. The winning male team will receive the Dave Myrie Trophy and the female winner will get the Dr Carol Long Trophy,” added Martin.
“These are two outstanding individuals who have contributed significantly to track and field in the country. Not because he is principal of Kingston College, Mr Myrie was also principal of Wolmer’s Boys’ School and has played a significant role in helping to organise financial support for the meet. He is a man behind the scenes and has been involved heavily in corporate Jamaica,” said Martin, going on to laud Long and her husband Wayne for the way they have carried out their roles as directors of On Di Run Events Management. On Di Run is most well known for its management of track and field meet results.
Immaculate Conception High School and Kingston College (KC) will be going into the meet as leaders following several field events at the recent Youngster Goldsmith meet.
On the female side, Immaculate leads with 49 points, ahead of Excelsior, 42, and Wolmer’s, 33.
KC are on 51 points with Jamaica College, 47, second. Calabar, on 34 points, close out the top three.
