Wolmer’s Girls, KC lead the way at Corporate Area meet

WOLMER’S GIRLS and Kingston College (KC) are the leaders after yesterday’s day one of the twoday Corporate Area Developmen­t Meet at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College.

Wolmer’s lead the girls with 150 points and they are followed in the top five by Excelsior High 147, Immaculate Conception High 142, The Queen’s School 77, St Andrew High 76 and Convent of Mercy, Alpha 65.

KC lead the boys with 146 points. Calabar High 121, Jamaica College (JC) 109, Excelsior 56 and Wolmer’s Boys 52 close out the top five.

As expected there were fireworks in the 100 metres as in the first final St Andrew High’s Jowana Pennant created a major upset in Class Four clocking a personal best 12.68 seconds to beat pre-race favourite Mick-Kyla Gardener of Wolmer’s who was second in 12.75. Alliyah Ross of Convent of Mercy, Alpha was third in 12.87.

Natrece East of Wolmer’s Girls was an impressive winner in the Class Three event as she was out of the blocks very fast and won in a season’s best 11.67. Kayla Johnson of Immaculate was second in 11.93 with Tashika Thompson of Excelsior, third in 12.43.

Wolmer’s Girls also won the 100m events in Class Two and Class One. Tiana Marshall topped the Class Two 100m in 11.9 while Mickayla Gardener won Class One in 12.21.

KC’s Yourie Lawrence stole the spotlight in the Class One boys’ 100m. In a very close encounter, Lawrence, 10,55, clipped Calabar’s Shaquane Gordon, 10.59.

Excelsior’s Damor Miller was third in 10.63.

Malike Nugent of Excelsior won the Class Two 100m in 10.75 ahead of KC’s Nyron Wade (10.79). In Class Three, Mario Ross of Wolmer’s Boys won in 10.99, ahead of Ormsby Campbell of KC, 11.41.

In the 1500m, Wolmer’s Girls and KC picked up two wins each. Chrisstass­ia Pearce gave the Wolmerians their first win in Class Three clocking five minutes 27.27 seconds to get the better of Fatihat Tajudeen (5:28.47) of St Andrew High.

Jeneail Henry won the Class One event in 5:03.22, ahead of Sheneequa Anderson, 5:11.06, of Excelsior. Hannah Charles of Queen’s captured the Class Two 1500m in 5:12.63, ahead of Melaiaka Russell (5:21.33) of Immaculate.

Nahashan Ruto and Ethan Gioko scored convincing wins in Classes Two and One, respective­ly, for KC. Gioka won Class One in a personal best 4:00.48, with his teammate Jaquan Coke also producing a personal best 4:04.40 for second.

Ruto won Class Two in 4:05.20 as Sekani Brown of Calabar, who crossed the line third in 4:16.10, was promoted to second. Dominic Amponsah of JC, who finished second, was disqualifi­ed for a lane infringeme­nt.

Bevin Davey of JC captured the Class Three 1500m in 4:30.00, ahead of Obrian Clarke of Calabar, 4:30.92.

There were three impressive wins in long jump events. Mireya Simpson of Immaculate won the Class One girls’ long jump with a personal best of 5.62m while Shelly Ann Taylor of Excelsior High topped Class Two with a season’s best 5.63m.

Nathan Wade of KC won the boys’Class Two event with a windaided 7.54m, ahead of Calabar’s Ramone Lewis, 7.15m.

Action on today’s final day will begin at 11 a.m. with the 400m hurdles open for girls.
