KC, Excelsior retain Corporate Area Developmen­t titles

KINGSTON COLLEGE (KC) and Excelsior High School have retained the respective boys’ and girls’ titles at the Corporate Area Developmen­t Meet in contrastin­g fashion at the end of the two-day track event at the Jamaica College Ashenheim Stadium yesterday.

KC were dominant throughout the meet, facing very little resistance on their way to the boys’ title while Excelsior were embroiled in a fierce race against Wolmer’s Girls to defend their girls’ title.

KC amassed 461 points on their way to victory, leaving rivals Calabar High School a distant second with 382.5. Jamaica College were third with 321.5, while Excelsior, 195, and St George’s College, 153, rounded out the boys’ top five.

Excelsior just edged a relentless Wolmer’s Girls’ unit to the title, ending the meet in pole position with 360 points, four ahead of Wolmer’s, 356. Immaculate Conception High, 298, The Queen’s School, 200, and St Andrew High School for Girls, 163, completed the top five in the girls’ standings.

KC were early leaders in the competitio­n, ending day one ahead of the pack with 146 points with Calabar leading the chase with 121.

KC would pick up steam on day two, sweeping the boys’ 400m hurdles after Jahvanie Tyrell took the boys’ Class Two title in 54.33 seconds, while his teammate Antonio Forbes took Class One in 50.73.

The boys from North Street would also dominate in the relays, winning three of the six relay titles up for grabs. They won the Class Three 4x100 metres in 43.88 seconds and returned for the Class Two title in 40.98.

KC would also win the 4x400m Open title in 3:08.82 minutes ahead of Excelsior, second in 3:22.86.

It was a fight to the finish on the girls’ side as Wolmer’s Girls started day two ahead of Excelsior. Wolmer’s, with 150 points, had opened a three-point lead over Excelsior.

But Excelsior would open the day in dominant form, Diandra Kelly and Deschaniqu­e Douglas earning precious points when they had a one-two finish in the 400-metre hurdles open, clocking 1:02.06 minutes and 1:03.69 respective­ly.

The battle between the two girls’ schools would continue in the 400 metres as Excelsior edged Wolmer’s in both the Class Two and Class One finals.

Excelsior’s Breana Brown won Class Two in 54.52 seconds ahead of the Wolmer’s pair of Kaysian Sewell and Zonya-Camay Sterling, who finished second and third in 56.24 and 56.66.

In Class One, Excelsior’s Diandra Kelly claimed the title in 54.96 ahead of Wolmerian Hannah Charles, 55.55.

Excelsior closed the show in the girls’ 4x400m Open when they won in a time of 3:44.73 minutes ahead of Wolmer’s, who would settle for second in 3:45.91.
