Ten individual events to be contested at Gibson-McCook Relays

TEN INDIVIDUAL events, five on the track and a similar number in the field, are down to be contested at Saturday’s Gibson-McCook Relays at the National Stadium.

Several of the country’s top senior athletes will be in action in both areas. The men’s long jump and the women’s high jump will get things under way at 10:30 a.m. to be followed by the men’s pole vault at 11 a.m.

The women’s long jump, which is set for 1 p.m., will feature World Athletics Championsh­ips representa­tive Tissanna Hickling of Ricketts Track Club, Serena Cole of MVP Track Club, and top schoolgirl­s Jade Ann Dawkins of St Jago High and St Elizabeth Technical’s Chloe Palmer and Richelle Stanley.

The men’s high jump, which will also start at 1 p.m., will feature overseas entrant Jermaine Francis of St Kitts and Nevis, Lushane Wilson of G.C. Foster College, and Christoffe Bryan of MVP Track Club.

The first individual track event will get under way at 4 p.m. with the preliminar­y round of the women’s 100 metres. World Championsh­ips 400m hurdles bronze medallist Rushell Clayton of Elite Performanc­e Track Club will make her season’s debut in this event. She will be joined by Ronda Whyte of Swept Track Club, Kemba Nelson of Elite Performanc­e, Megan Simmonds of Puma, Jura Levy of Legacy Track Club, and World Under-20 100m hurdles silver medallist Alexis James.

The men will take the track at 4:20 p.m., and sprint hurdler Rasheed Broadbell will lead a trio of athletes from Elite Performanc­e Track Club. The others are Javorne Dunkley, Sandray Davidson, and Julian Forte. They will be joined by Tyquendo Tracy of Swept Track Club and sprint hurdler Tyler Mason of JC Teachers.

Four local-based African schoolboys will line up for the men’s 1500m at 4:25 p.m. They are Kingston College’s duo of Chris Wanjiku and Ethan Gioka and the Jamaica College pair of Evans Tetteh and Dominic Amponsah.

At 7:08 p.m., the women’s 400m will be on track, and MVP Track Club’s Sada Williams of Barbados, the two-time World Championsh­ips bronze medallist, will head the field.

Following his recent 400m win over world champion Antonio Watson at the Camperdown Classic, Roshawn Clarke of Swept Track Club will headline the men’s one-lap event at 7:18 p.m. He will face Rusheen McDonald of Speed Limit and the Titans Track Club trio of Terry Thomas, Keno Burrell, and Malik James King.
