ST JAGO High School’s Marquies Page and Ferncourt’s Rihanna Scott stole the spotlight on yesterday’s opening day at the Central Athletics Championships at G.C. Foster College, winning their events in personal best times.

Impressive all season, Scott, the Class 4 100-metre leader with a personal best 12.19 seconds done in her first outing at the Pure Water /JC/ Danny Williams meet in January, came up against her sternest test of the season against the previously unbeaten Tashana Godfrey out of Edwin Allen High School. Scott was out of the blocks very, very quickly, going on to win going away from her rivals in a new personal best of 12.02.

Godfrey was second in 12.38 and her teammate, Makaila McDonald, third in 12.52. Both had personal bests

After breaking his schoolmate Ray J Reece’s meet record of 11.29 seconds in the preliminary round of the Class 3 boys’ 100 metres in 11.19 seconds, Page was absolutely brilliant in the final. After a fantastic start to contol the race early, he slowed close to the finish line while pointing to the display clock, winning in a fast 10.89 seconds.

Teammate Andre Boyd ended second in 11.23 with third going to Kalel Archibald of Edwin Allen in 11.37.

Edwin Allen High’s girls were dominant in the 100 metres, going one-two in Classes 1, 2, and 3.

Theianne-Lee Terrelonge won Class 2 in 11.51, ahead of Reneica Edwards, 11.91. In Class 1, Jounee

Armstrong, 11.97, surprised Trezeguet Taylor, 12.08.

Today’s final day of competition will get under way at 8:30 a.m. with the girls’ Open 3000 metres to be followed by the boys Open 5000 final.

There will also be the 200 metres, 800, 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, 4x100 relay, 4x400, and sprint medley on show.
