Reggae Boy Lambert heads to San Antonio on loan
REGGAE BOY midfielder Kevon Lambert has returned to the USL Championship on a seasonlong loan from Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake.
The 26-year-old, who made three appearances from Real Salt Lake after leaving Phoenix Rising last year, will turn out for San Antonio FC in a move subject to league and federation approval.
“We’re thrilled to add current Jamaican international Kevon Lambert, and we’re grateful to Salt Lake for facilitating the loan,” said San Antonio head coach Alen Marcina.
“This signing speaks volumes as Kevon has proven himself to be one of the most dominant players in the USL.
“His abilities align perfectly with our evolved game model, and his enthusiasm to contribute underscores our ambition to contend for championships.”
Lambert, who has earned 27 caps for Jamaica since making his debut seven years ago, became Rising’s all-time leader for appearances in his six seasons with the club, playing 161 games in all competitions.
Regarded as one of the USL’s best defensive midfielders, Lambert scored 15 goals and registered 10 assists, helping Rising to reach the Championship final twice in five playoff appearances.
Internationally, Lambert has enjoyed relative success with Jamaica, turning out in three CONCACAF Gold Cups and also helping the
Caribbean side reach the final of the 2017 edition.
He joins a San Antonio side which finished fourth in the Western Conference and then reached the semifinals before bowing out.
San Antonio will warm up for their season opener against Loudoun United on March 9 with a friendly against four-time Guatemalan champions Antigua GFC on Saturday.
